Wood Joints End To End

Joint image description butt joint: the end of a piece of wood is butted against another piece of wood. this is the simplest and weakest joint. of those, there is the a) t-butt, b) end-to-end butt, c) t-lap d) miter butt and e) edge-to-edge butt.. I know the finger joint is king here, but are there other methods that are nearly as good? i need some very long walnut boards (13 feet) that i cannot find in rough stock and i am considering joining two pieces end to end to get the length i need.. Joints may be as simple as one end of a piece of wood placed on another, or they may be as elaborate as several interlocking slots. most joints are held together with some sort of outside force, such as glue, nails, staples, or screws..
